ms. girlee's kitchen

4809 Parker St, Richmond, VA 23231, USA

Ms. Girlee’s is named after owner and entrepreneur Helen Holmes’ late grandmother, Girlee Francis Crump. Helen serves her guests the same soul food she grew up on: all things fried, buttered and smothered, an ode to Girlee and Charleston. Ms. Girlee’s is a celebration of good southern eating, which means leaving a place a little bit heavier and a whole lot happier than when you entered it.

Helen Holmes

Helen Holmes put on fish fries in 100-degree weather to earn enough money to open Ms. Girlee’s. On opening day, she was debt-free. Today, Helen gives away approximately 5,000 meals a year to Richmonders in need.

“I love this place because I opened it on my own.”

Why soul food? Hint: You can smother it.
